On A Dark Desert Highway
Cosmic Campground, NM, on Dark Sky Road, is where we begin this video. It's one of a few places in the US with the darkest night skies, making it popular with astronomers. Then we remote camp in the Coconino National Forest on a beautiful forest service road and find some amazing places to camp.

A bolt through the receiver tightens the hitch to stop rattle, pretty standard here in Oz and a padlock can be used on the retaining pin if you don't want to pay for a locking pin. So all up $10 max.

The Sioux ran the Assinboine out of the Great Lakes region. The Iroquois Confederacy as a police action ran the Sioux out of the Great Lakes to the Plains. The Sioux and Assinboine end up on the same reservation. Fort Peck. That's karma.

Every study shows bear spray is more effective than guns at preventing unwanted behavior from bears. Although, they usually lack nuance and fail to understand the wide varied behaviors of bears. The studies generally look at the situation and environment exclusively while ignore the context of the individual bears in each case. Just as police go, you need a non-lethal and lethal option. If all you have is a gun, then you're going to have to kill when you could've had an option that would not have. And when the time where lethal is the only option, you'll regret only having bear spray. Grizzlies went extinct in California due to them being on bounty and hunted with guns. Too many people went killing bears frivolously. With the lack of shooting bears, the increase of them being around and the need to have a gun to defend yourself. Lots of forestry workers and rangers work a lot and spend lots of money keeping track of their bears and making sure they're population is being sustained. When people go out killing bears when they didn't need to be killed (shooting a black bear during a false charge) it's a bit unfair to the people spending so much effort keeping them alive. Yet, if that's your mindset why you didn't kill a bear to save your own life, then you're delusional. Every situation is different and varied. Carry both, know what to use. Then, how to behave when you don't have time for either. Situational awareness is key.

My wife and I joke about how I could be walking alone in a snow-covered 10,000 acre field, and someone would bump in to me. But, I've had many campsites and have yet to have something stolen or tampered with. It's the moral codes of camping: Ask permission to enter a campsite; and, leave stuff alone. It's disappointing that someone intruded. I'd've moved, too.

I don't like how when you use it in the rise position that the anti-rattle device is pushing the hitch down ahead of the pin causing the ball to raise and the tongue weight is not bearing on the pins and anti-rattle device. In the drop position, you have the opposite. The tongue load reversal causing rattle is relatively low compared to the tongue weight. My point in saying this is that with time, I suspect you will see wear in the reciever pin bores. I think I still prefer the u-bolt device even if it requires a wrench.
